Five Assumptions for gas particles: 

  • No defined volume but with a defined mass. In other words, their volume is very small as compared to distance in between them.
  • No intermolecular force. No attraction, No repulsion, No potential energy. Total energy=Kinetic energy.
  • Continuous, random motion.
  • Elastic collision.
  • Kinetic Energy proportional to absolute temperature..

  • Temperature increase, Speed increase, Kinetic energy increase.
  • However, it is impossible to define the speed of any one gas particle. As such, the speeds of gases are defined in terms of their root-mean-square speed.
